CCF Presents Childs/Hurst Scholarship

The Beth E. Childs/ Genna Hurst Renewable Scholarship administered by the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) was presented to Aviel Bowsher during the Senior Awards Assembly at Calaveras High School in late May 2013.

Aviel is the daughter of Michael & Karen Bowsher who reside in West Point. Her college plans will take her to either UC Santa Cruz or Azusa Pacific University where her intended field of study will be medical research.

During her high school years, Aviel has been a member of the CHS varsity swimming team and the cross-country team. She is a 4-year member of the California Scholarship Federation and a past Lumberjack Day Queen.  In her spare time, she is a lifeguard and works part-time at Ironstone Vineyards concerts.

Scott Ratterman, CCF’s Grants/Scholarship Committee Chair, states: “Aviel is a very deserving winner of our scholarship this year.  She was one of the valedictorians in her graduating class graduating with a 4.224 GPA.  We wish her well in her future academic endeavors.”

The Foundation has awarded $56,000 for this program since the scholarship’s inception in 2000.  This scholarship (a 4-year $4,000 renewable scholarship) is awarded annually to a graduating student residing in the West Point/ Wilseyville area.
