2014 Career & Technical Training Scholarships Awarded at Bret Harte High School
Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) this year has awarded a total of six Career and Technical Training (C&TT) scholarships to high school students from both Bret Harte and Calaveras High Schools. Each award was for $1500.
Bret Harte High School held their Senior Award Night event on Wednesday, May 21 at the Dr. Elliott A. Smart Performing Arts Building. The three BHHS students selected and their fields of study are: Bria Calhoun attending Columbia J.C. in the Medical/Health Care field; Marissa Menzes, Carrington College, Sacramento for a degree in Veterinary Medicine; Albert Muetterties, Northwest Lineman College, Oroville pursuing a degree as an Electrical/Lineman.
The varied fields of study above illustrate that there are many other career paths or certificates of training other than traditional four-year degrees. 2014 is the fourth year that these C&TT scholarships have been given. Over those four years, 30 students have received C&TT awards from the Foundation. The total dollar amount of these awards is $28,200. The donor advised fund which funds these scholarships was setup by Paul and Darlene DeBaldo. CCF salutes the DeBaldo’s for soliciting donations to fund these scholarships that will make a true difference in these young people’s lives.
Barbara Boyd White, CCF Scholarship Co-Chair states: “The Foundation receives many generous donations from individuals and corporate businesses in our community designated to benefit the Career & Technical Training Fund. These donations allow CCF to pass on sizable scholarships to those pursuing a vocational trade. The C&TT Fund is very important to the Foundation and our community.”
Congratulations to each of the scholarship winners!
